Acne - The Causes

by Paul Cris

When an individual attains his period of puberty, the male hormones present in the adrenal gland of both boys and girls, stimulate the oil glands present underneath the skin. In the usual process, these oil glands lubricate and protect the skin through the openings called pores. But sometimes, the cells that are located near the openings of the skin, block the pores present. In this case the oil content gets accommodated below the skin surface. Therefore, the germs such as bacteria or any other microorganism present in the blood prey upon this oily food. These organisms later on multiply and cause irritation to the surrounding tissues.

Due to the inflammation of skin various types of bumps are noticed. You develop a pustule if the itch persists near the surface. If it gets deeper you get a pimple, which is also known as papule and if it is still deeper it results in cysts. When the pores close with the sebum content on the surface and bulge out, it is whitehead and if the oil gets rusted due to the opened pores you will notice a black colored swelling called blackhead.

The origin of pimples is still unknown. There are still a few issues, which have not been brought to light. Nobody exactly knows why the pores collapse and pack the sebum content within the skin area underneath or nobody has studied as to how this process spreads from one sebaceous gland to another.

The causes of developing adult or teen acne may be mainly due to hormone factor, or heredity, diet factor, vitamin deficiency, stress and much more. It is not at all simple to explain why a disease like acne happens to many of the teenagers.

Do Staph Infections Cause Acne Breakouts?

by Tim Gorman

There is no simple answer to this question. All acne is caused by some sort of infection. It can be due to clogged pores becoming infected, or an infection under the skin that can cause acne on the surface.

Staph infections can manifest themselves on the skin, in the form of eruptions that are pus-filled and look like boils. But, if the eruptions are smaller, they can be more like zits or pimples.

Typically, more than one eruption will be present, and they can be present in one or more areas on the body. They can be painful and very unsightly.

These eruptions are different than normal acne in that they are not caused by pores clogging and becoming infected. Therefore, normal acne treatments like topical Benzoyl peroxide will not be effective in treating the breakout.

If you have a staph infection, you will need a doctor to diagnose it and treat it. Antibiotics MUST be prescribed in order to cure a staph infection.

How do you tell if you have a staph infection or if it is just regular acne? It can be hard to tell the difference, but some signs to look for are eruptions in places you do not normally get pimples. For instance, if you occasionally get pimples, but only on your chin, then suddenly you start to experience eruptions on your cheeks or forehead, it may not be simple acne.

Everyones skin is different, and only you know how your skin usually behaves. If you see signs that something unusual is happening, then you should check with your doctor to find out the cause.

Homemade Remedies On How To Get Rid Of Pimples - Be Your Own Doctor

by Robert Sheehan

Nothing could be more annoying than to find a pimple on your face one fine morning. It becomes worse if it happens before a big event, which you have to attend. There are some homemade remedies on how to get rid of pimples, which give quick results and are easy to apply.

Some Homemade Remedies

Always remember never handle a pimple. The pimple becomes more inflamed. Handling spreads bacteria and germs, which caused the pimple, to other parts of the face and may cause scars.

Every half an hour hold an ice pack against the pimple for 2 minutes to reduce the inflammation. Holding a tea bag or a cotton ball dabbed in lemon juice against the pimple can also reduce the inflammation. A dab of toothpaste (not gel) applied before going to bed can also be soothing.

Apply a cream or ointment containing benzene peroxide or salicylic acid on the pimple or your entire face. Dont apply too much as these creams can dry the skin. Dont use it if your skin is sensitive.

If you have no time for remedies and want to hide the pimple then cover the pimple with a flesh colored concealer. The concealer also hides the oily shine.

Wash your face 2 or 3 times a day with lukewarm salted water. Do not use soap as it dries the skin and may aggravate the pimple. Lukewarm salted water removes the oil without drying the skin too much.

You may also use unscented soap or a specialized acne cleanser at home that contains no harsh chemicals such as lye. Gently scrub the skin dry with a soft cloth. Hard rubbing might let out the skins natural oil, which helps contain the spread of the pimples.

Whenever possible wear an oil free make up. They prevent pimple build up that cause scars. Remove the make up every night and clean the face with an acne-fighting medicine to remove oil, dirt and bits of make up from within the skin.

Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water. Garlic Juice with 3 parts water is an excellent cleansing agent. Raw garlic applied (rubbed) on the face can make persistent pimples disappear without a scar with repeated applications.

Following these tips will get you results within a few days. If your pimples are a recurring problem then drinking lots of water, proper diet and facial masks are the long-term remedies. In case of major outbreaks consult a doctor for specialist advice.

Acne Cause Does Propecia

Acne Program- Step 4: Adding Essential Fatty Acids To Your Diet

by Rudy Silva

Getting sufficient essential fatty acids is importance in clearing acne. Its these fatty acids that help control the production of androgens the hormones that surge during the teen-age times, which causes excess sebum oil to clog your hair follicle and contribute to creating your acne.

The three fatty acids you need daily are omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9. You need more omega 6, olive oil, than omega 3.

When you are deficient in the essential fatty acids, you will have,

* A weaken immune system

* Inflammatory disorders

* Poor skin

* Skin eruptions that wont heal

* Increase sebum production causing acne

* Sebaceous glands size increase

Eating essential oils is necessary to provide the right oils that are used in the sebaceous glands. These oils can come from straight vegetable oils or from oils in specific foods such as nuts and seeds.

Use flax seed oil (omega-3 oil) and olive oil (omega-6 oil) in your salad. These are the best oils to eat and are called polyunsaturated fatty acids. The other oil that is even better for you is called monounsaturated fatty acid, omega-9. This oil is found in avocados.

Most diets people have contain an excess of omega-6 oils, so mostly likely you need to concentrate on getting more omega-3 oils into your diet.

You can get omega-3 oil from,

* avocados

* sesame seeds

* pumpkin seeds

* walnuts

* dark leafy green vegetables (spinach, mustard greens, kale)

* wheat germ oil

* salmon

* sardines

* albacore tuna

Or, you can take one to 4 tablespoon of flax seed oil, omega-3 oil, each day. This will give you the amount of omega-3 oil that your body needs to reduce or eliminate acne blemishes. You can add this oil to your morning cereal, soups, smoothies, salads and other liquid foods. Each tablespoon of flax seed oil contains about 100 calories.

You can get omega-6 oil from,

* Flaxseed oil

* Flaxseeds

* grape seed oil

* pistachio nuts

* olives

* olive oil

* sunflower seeds

* evening primrose oil

* pumpkin seeds

Taking 2-3 tablespoons of omega-6 oil a day will give you the amount of this oil that you body needs. You can add olive oil and other oils into your salad with the flax seed oil.

You can get omega-9 oil from,

* Olive oil

* Avocados

* Cashews

* Almonds

* Olives

* sesame oil

* pecans

* pistachio nuts

Taking around 1 tablespoon of olive oil per day will give you the omega-9 oil that your body needs.

Fish Oils

In addition to supplying your diet with omega-3 and omega-6 oils, you need to supplement your diet with fish oils. Fish oil contains EPA and DHA fatty acids.

Normally, enzymes in your body break down omega-6 into EPA and DHA fatty acids.

* Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA)

* Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)

These two fatty acids eventually change into prostaglandins.

What are prostaglandins?

Prostaglandins are chemical hormones that come from omega-3 and omega-6 oils and that help,

regulate every function in your cells and organs.

Postaglandins also keep androgen hormones in control so that excess sebum is not produce in the hair follicle, which results in acne.

However, eating plenty essential fatty acids may not insure that you produce enough EPA and DHA, which produce the essential prostaglandins.

It is critical for acne and more importantly for your health that you get enough EPA and DHA in your cells and organs so they can produce the required prostaglandins.

To increase the prostaglandins in your cell walls, it is necessary for you to take a fish supplement, which contains both the EPA and DHA.

Of course eating salmon, halibut, and mackerel twice a week will be a plus in providing your body with more EPA and DHA.

Include at least 20% of your diet calories as good fats omega oils and fish oil. This is essential for controlling the excess activity of your hormones and reducing the inflammation of your acne.

Mission Clear Acne For The Teenagers!

by Joann Grant

The combustible younger generation! Can they tolerate or accept any nuisance with their cheeks? How dare this acne land on your face, all over, suddenly, when they were least expected? You feel like catching each one of them, bury and hang them! The level of your frustration is too difficult to control! Teen age acne is not only a health problem; it is a hard psychological problem as well.

If this problem could be solved by strikes, demonstrations and protests, the teenagers would have resorted to these forms of actions, without delay. But, here is a different type challenge for the teenager. He has to remain calm, and develop his own strategies to treat this individual problem. Because, more stress means more acne. You know, stress has been counted as one of the definite causes of acne.

Young man, take the attack of acne in the right spirit. It is the first protest of your body mechanism, against your style of handling it. Have you ever applied proper thought, how you eat, what you eat? Cold ice cream, hot coffee, junk food, oily stuff, chocolates after chocolates! Well, I am not blaming any one or all of these products as such. But this is the time for you to make a review of the food habits.

You are a young man or a young lady; you have strength; this is the age, when your body will have the maximum resistance power, in spite of the acne attack that you presently suffer. Instead of pounding the stock of over the counter medications and experimenting with them, switch over to the natural way of living.

You can continue to eat lavishly as much as you wish to eat. I am not advising you to fast. But do give lots of importance to fruits and fresh seasonal vegetables, which will be highly beneficial to you in the long run.

The worried lot of acne and skin care scientists and researchers is unable to find a definite remedy for the problem of acne so far. They have stumbled across a rare find such as Rooibos tea. Japanese scientists in particular are greatly enamored about the high medicinal value of this tea.

Scientists all over the world are also involved in the research. It is reported to have age fighting properties. It has delivered great results in skin and health care products. The Rooibos extract contains antioxidants, anti-bacterial, anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Just watch your acne for about 2 weeks. Most probably, it will go in the way it arrived, quietly. Thereafter, if need be, consult your dermatologist, but let your emphasis be on the natural products.

Back Acne

by Greg Culver

Back acne can be quite common and difficult to treat because the back contains thousands of sebaceous glands that produce a lot of oil. Consequently there is more opportunity for follicles to become blocked and so produce acne. In severe cases, acne on the back can produce cysts and nodules and so normal treatment may not be sufficient to rid your skin of it.

Mild to moderate acne on the back can probably be treated normally, using a combination of cleansing, moisturizing and applying a treatment for the condition. That is, non invasive cleansing, and then using a lotion that includes glycolic acid (8-10%). Following that, apply benzoyl peroxide 2.5%) generously and then moisturize if needed.

Tip: This regimen is not recommended for other areas of the body. The skin on the back is quite tough and so is able to handle this. Also, 1-3% of the population are allergic the benzoyl peroxide so it may be useful to test a small spot before applying generously.

Additionally, benzoyl peroxide will bleach your clothing so make sure that you are wearing white to avoid bleaching your favorite clothing. Even after it has been applied for several hours it may still bleach your clothing, so be very careful.

Try to avoid wearing backpacks that can cause irritation to your back as this will worsen your acne. Tight fitting clothing can also be an irritant, causing further problems with your acne.

Other areas of the body where severe acne can develop include the chest and shoulders. In these areas lesions can become very red and painful, causing irritation. A product that has proven to be very successful is accutane. Mild cases can be treated in the normal manner - that is, cleansing, applying treatment (cream with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide) and then moisturizing. The area of the neck is very sensitive, so be careful with the treatment of that area. Apply once a day only to start with, but moisturize twice a day and don't start too quickly with benzoyl peroxide as too much use initially will cause major irritation.
